Montelukast (Singulair) is in a class of drugs called antileukotrienes, which block the actions of substances involved in inflammatory and allergic reactions. It is useful in some animals to aid in the management of allergic diseases, including asthma. It will NOT stop an acute asthmatic attack. Montelukast may also be used in some cases of chronic bronchitis and obstructive lung disease.

Side Effects:

The use of montelukast in pet animals has been limited; therefore information on its side effects may not be complete. In humans, side effects are rare, and may include headache, abdominal or stomach pain, vomiting, cough, dental pain, dizziness, fever, heartburn, skin rash, stuffy nose, weakness, or unusual tiredness. Consult your veterinarian if you notice any of these or other possible side effects.
